The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F-15 Eagle is an all-weather extremely manoeuvrable, tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. It was developed for the U.S. Air Force, and first flew in July 1972. The first Eagle (F-15B) was delivered on 14 November 1974. In January 1976, the first Eagle destined for a combat squadron, the 555th TFS, was entry service. All F-15 aircraft were grounded by the U.S. Air Force after an Missouri Air National Guard F-15C crashed on 2 November 2007. The Air Force announced their plan to upgrade178 F-15Cs as well as the 224 F-15Es in service beyond 2025.
